THE FURTHER

The Further is named after a 1997 Geneva record of the same name. The band members include Peter Backler - bass and singing, Barrington Mole - guitar and James Dowse - drums. All hail from a small Derbyshire town called Belper which has won Britain's best high-street award two years in a row!!

Peter and Barrington started their first band in the mid nineties at the height of Britpop. Rehearsing in Barrington's bedroom, they put mattresses up against the windows to keep the noise in. James joined in some years later in their serious band called 'Ejectorseat.'

Hard work eventually landed them a record deal with Taste (Muse/Shed Seven) in 2007. The wheels came off the Ejectorseat carriage a year later in 2008 amidst a flurry of handbags at dawn and "nervous exhaustion!"

Their greatest influences are by bands that have the ability to make you think and question the world around you. It's the kind of music that defies fashion and the decades which define your life.

Formed at the beginning of 2016, The Further's idea as a band, was to be life defining but most importantly just to make a bit of a racket with friends. They have found it to be a very easy and enjoyable experience. Being a three piece gives the songs an uncluttered directness and a certain raw edge that they hope would be captured on their debut EP. Knowing each other for so long and understanding each other's musical styles help them work seemlessly. Barrington's guitar heroes are Johnny Marr, Peter Buck and Rod Jones - so that gives an idea of what to expect from his guitar work. Vocally and lyrically Peter is mainly inspired by his love of Morrissey and Manic Street Preachers and when it comes to bass playing he likes to ensure the bass lines are just as inspirational as the guitar lines - Peter Hook, who was co-founder of the seminal post-punk band Joy Division along with Bernard Sumner in the mid-1970s, is probably the best point of reference. James just plays what the two other band members tell him to which he is very good at. Actually, James was taught to drum by one of the very best - Neil Cooper who drums for 'Therapy?' a hard rock band from Northern Ireland.

Their first single 'Ordinary' is a song about the everyday struggles that we all face and how we need each other to help us get through. Although our existence can often seem futile, our existence does make a difference, "We truly exist!"

Indie rock. Forever emblazoned within your mind. Stirring your soul. Emulating the beauty and brilliance of bands such as The Smiths, Suede, Gene, Idlewild and Manic Street Preachers. To find out more about this band go to:
