GIROBABIES

The Girobabies are from Glasgow, Scotland. The members of the band are: Mark McG (vocalist, lyrics) , Robbie Gunn (Guitarist) , Jo D`arc (bassist) , Jess Aslan (Keys) and Gordy Duncan JR (Drums). The musicians play baffling grunge soul music birthed in Glasgow but with their band members from up and down the country. They have recently supported the likes of Steve Mason (Beta Band) and Bombskare .

They had played a sold out Barrowland's show in March 2016 and are part of the Yellow Movement scene which has became a major part of the underground festival culture. Their most recent album `Who Took Utopia?` was self produced and self released to some critical acclaim including the  9/10 'Louder Than War' review . The band had also released a few albums this year under different projects such as Jackal Trades, The Twistettes and Gordy Duncan JR's solo album.

Their official debut album 'Who Took Utopia?' was released to critical acclaim. This was a self-produced and self-released follow up to Two mini LPs ‘Bus Stop Apocalypse’ & ‘Social Not Working’ and a secret album called 'Taxi Driver Rumour' where the Girobabies used an indie/grunge, almost punk, backbeat to deliver pertinent political/social observations akin to the likes of the Sleaford Mods, The Streets & The Fall.

'Overheard in the Westend' from their Bus Stop Apocalypse LP.

This latest full length takes the band into new, almost genre-defying, grounds. The Giros leave their peers behind with this stunning conceptual album. What may initially seem politically devoid for the Giros style, the poetical wordsmithing of front man Mark McG soon demonstrates his ability to break the realities of life down to their core vulnerabilities and deliver one the most relevant and observed social commentaries around. Through rollercoaster tales of joyful expectation, apathy and their deepest insecurities McG chronicles the line by line delivery with a comforting and a blissfully self-assured Scottish accent, pulling you in and permanently leaving you wanting more. In-house producer (and guitarist) Robbie Gunn leads a masterfully orchestrated composition taking you from a fiery Pixie-esque outset, through Nick Cave melancholy to the realities of discovering where your own Utopia may be found among this layered pop-punk, sometimes funk-reggae (even psychedelic!) offering.

  • Equinox - Punky wah wah guitar, an organ playing with go go drums. What a melody! Makes you want to do an upbeat twist. Would you ever want to be normal or even report that you are? Everything you have to do during the day even fixing the different parts of a car seems normal but what's going through your head? Always something to laugh at.

  • Secret Animal - The sound of mad cat electronics. Out of control. He's a secret animal walking the walk down the street.

  • Mirrorshow - What are the things you dare to do in front of a mirror let alone in public? Mirror another to impress.

As well as being the frontman with the Megaphone, McG is a renowned poet, writer & spoken word artist under his alias Jackal Trades. Guitarist Robbie Gunn (also performing solo under the guise of Sun Dogs) is a leading Glasgow producer. Drummer by trade, Gordy Duncan JR is also a well-respected solo artist (releasing his debut album in 2015). Recent additions of Jess on Keyboards and the Bass of renowned DJ & Producer Jo D`arc (also of the Twistettes) has refined the balance is this multi-talented band of artists.
Self-funding everything they do, in the truest DIY spirt, the Girobabies have made a name for themselves be being stalwarts of the summer festival scene and gigging the length and breadth of the UK - culminating in a co-headline slot at the legendary Barrowlands. Appearances on STV, airplay and BBC 6 Music continues to propel the band into the consciousness of music lovers everywhere.

Very focused lyrics. Delivery a smashing path through the nightlife and sub-culture of Glasgow. An incredible mix of humor and tragedy in the lyrics akin to eavesdropping on late-night pub conversations. Baffling grunge punk soul music with a dollop of psychedelic dystopian elbow grease and a pinch of gutter rock utopian poetry.

Join the many followers of this band as they break the realities of life down to their core vulnerabilities and deliver one the most relevant and observed social commentaries around. To find out more about the Girobabies go to:
