BOUZOUKI LUKEY

Bouzouki Lukey, aka Luke Ward, is from Cavan, Ireland but is now living in Belfast where he had just finished Med School.  He’s been playing in bands for more than half of his life. Luke first started out playing as part of a duet with accordion player Martin Tourish, who now plays with Altan. They released an album called Clan Ranald in 2005. They played mostly in Ireland and also did the Irish Spring Tour in Germany in 2007 playing at the Shetland Accordion and Fiddle festival the same year. He was also part of the Maurice Lennon quartet (from Stockton's Wing), along with Martin and singer Sarah Lang. They did one very successful Irish tour around the year 2009.

For the past few years he’s been living in Belfast and playing in a folk band called All Folk'd Up. He’s no longer playing with the lads but they are still on the go. Great times were had with this band, the highlight of which was playing the Balve Hohle August, 2014 in Germany. This is a large underground venue in a carved out cave near Dusseldorf.

Traditional music has been passed down in his family. His grandfather owned a pub in Ballybofey in the 1960s and would have had some great musicians passing through; one of which were the likes of the great John Doherty. His Granddad then started playing fiddles himself in the 1950s and his fiddles were passed down to Luke’s dad. Having been raised on the sounds of traditional Irish music, he has since moved more towards the center creating his own distinctive sound. He has always been interested in many types of music. After trying to write songs a few years ago they just seemed to come out in this indie/folk type of style which you will hear in My Movie.

  • My Movie – Upbeat tempo with beautiful shifts in his playing. 'She's moving back with her daddy up north. She'll do his will oh but how she has fought. Says that it's not too late. Time's up. They're locking the gate.  . . . .'

This track is just one of a bunch of songs he has written which has been made into a full album. All tracks were written by Luke. Stay tuned for more from this exciting artist. You can find out more about him on:
