ROBB MURPHY

Robb Murphy, from Belfast, plays simple yet breathtaking music. His lyrics are exquisite, sublime and sophisticated. The poetry within his songs are accentuated with unique visions fusing Pop, Electronic, Folk and Rock seamlessly. He has produced a second studio album called 'Sleep Tonight' which was released on Feb 28th, 2015. The album, 'Sleep Tonight', was written in Italy, summer of 2012. It’s on the gentler side of folk, rock and contemporary. He and his technicians did not just simply record an album but also built a studio, researched the right equipment, worked out how to use that equipment, and kept going regardless of any failures, frustrations, mistakes, retakes, and sleeplessness. Throughout it all, Robb mostly believed they could get it finished and for any doubt, it was repressed by the power of people’s positivity and belief in the project.

  • Sleep Tonight’ - a caressing voice of being lost in the day. Drums, piano and guitar. The day time can be hard for a soul.  A violin and a horn relax you into being grateful and looking forward to having a restful sleep. The music slows down and you close your eyes.

  • ‘When Love Is Tangled Between Friends’- sound of a harmonica opens this song. The singing      comes from the heart. Pleas are told of the hurt from tangled love. Being open with yourself and your heart and not wanting it to die are but part of learning and growing from it instead. A horn plays sending hope.

  • ‘Headstrong’ - with a banjo and a violin, describes feeling shivering sensations as you sense things are not going your way at all. You haven’t really lived until you become headstrong with wisdom. Electric guitar flows through. What gives you energy or makes you feel tense? Do you want to escape?

  • ‘The Darker Side’ - gently flows slowly adding more instrumentals that give accents. It’s a letting go of the darker side and the fighting of the nightmares. Another soft voice eases you into reaching out towards the light.

  • ‘Bound For Your Arms – starts out in the most simple of ways asking if you are ready to receive love. This is an American song that builds in strength, asking for your strength when he returns. The guitar is tuned to where his voice takes you.

The concept of the album talks about closeness, fears and strengths wrapping them all together with love. I did want to add another song of his that I love listening to. It’s called:

This is a more upbeat earlier song of his, one whose melody will get stuck ion your head.
