MOTION

Motion formed in 2016 and are from Edinburgh, Scotland. Motion started as a solo project by Paul Band (vocals/guitar). After a few lineup changes, the band found it’s feet with a lineup including Lee Shand on Bass and Robbie Thomson on Drums. Songwriting is a split project. Paul comes up with the music and Robbie comes up with about half of song lyrics. The band’s influences include The Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers, The Dandy Warhols, The Stone Roses, The Stranglers, Wire and XTC.

The band quickly rose to prominence in early 2017 after the release of the demo of 'Myths', which received airplay in the UK, mainland Europe and America. This was followed by several packed live headline shows in Scotland’s capital, and the release of the eagerly anticipated Motion EP, which was released in August 2017. The band is currently making waves on the Scottish live circuit; playing shows to packed venues on a regular basis and supporting the likes of Scottish indie heroes such as Ayakara and Rascalton. The band’s first two demo releases were met with critical acclaim and both received airplay on independent radio around the world, and the much anticipated Motion EP is currently being met with very positive reviews. The band is due to release a single and embark on a tour next year to promote the release.

Motion's strengths lie in not being afraid to experiment and bringing in ideas from many genres outside of the band's own style. They're not afraid to go against the current trends of indie music. That's something that many reviewers have praised them for in the past. Another thing that listeners often pick up on is Motion's lyrics. The band focuses on paying attention to writing intelligent lyrics for all the songs. The new Motion EP contains 4 songs.

  • Everything - Emo post punk with electronic waves throughout the beginning of the song. The added dream pop beats add more depth embellishing shoe gaze. When he promised to give her everything She still acts surprised. . . . .

  • Myths - Upbeatpost punk. Indie pop rock. Time takes its toll. A heavy Load, bought and sold. Time takes its toll. We know something they don't know.  . . . .

  • Who - Rocking shoe gaze indie beats. We don't think about the things that you say, the things that you do.  . . . .

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.

~ Washington Irving

  • Into The Lense - Upbeat indie alt dream pop and post punk. Won't you dance a dance for the masses. The ones that can't be heard. Tears are filling up the glasses. They're hanging on your every word.  . . . .

The next release will due to be out by early January 2018. The single will be one of the popular songs from the live set, to be announced near to the release date. The single will also include a new B-side. Some live dates will follow. Indie alt rock, dream pop, dub, psychedelic rock and post punk. Wonderful shoe gaze and emotional drifts.
