Little SpaRRow

Little Sparrow is singer/songwriter Katie Ware.

With a love for music, reaching back to her childhood, Katie was involved in a variety of projects before deciding, in 2010, to take her music in a new direction. It was at this time she launched herself as Little Sparrow - a title that came about in a conversation with Elbow's front man Guy Garvey. She had come to know him, after her relocation to Manchester, from her family home in Southern England.

He used to affectionately refer to her as 'Cockney Sparrow'. When she decided to adopt a stage name, he suggested this title which she decided to soften to the more gentle name that she uses today - feeling it more sympathetic to her sound and song writing style.

Katie, has since then, performed with a varying number of talented musicians who've provided a mix of harmonies, strings, guitars, pedal steel and percussion which is part of the sound that she feels has now been made truly her own.

The band members of Little Sparrow consists of Little Sparrow - Katie Ware: Vocals and guitar, Sarah Dale - Cello and vocals, Johnny Lexus - Guitar and vocals, Mitch Oldham - Percussion and Jonny Booth - Pedal Steele.

With prestigious supports of established folk favorites such as Kathryn Roberts & Sean Lakeman, Blue Rose Code, The Cadbury Sisters and the chance to join Beth Rowley for her sell out London date at St Pancras Old Church, London - Little Sparrow continues to introduce new admirers of her captivating sound to her list of followers.

The self release of her beautiful debut album 'Wishing Tree' in 2014 was her greatest achievement to date and she is thrilled to have been featured on BBC Radio 2, BBC 6 Music, BBC Introducing Manchester, Merseyside & Devon along with regular, regional and international play.

  •  Polly - Being missed, her words paint a picture. The dust won't settle until she comes back home. Gentle progressive folk with the cello providing the backdrop to the song.

  • By My Side - When you meet her in the park, all fears are whisked away. In this way, she is never alone, feeling complete and safe. Gentle rolling guitar and violin.

  • The Flame - Even though she is the same as the rest, she wonders if you'll see the best within her. She's giving all she's got. Guitar's notes gently scaling up and down, a violin and a voice as if as a flame being gently blown by the wind.

  • The Wishing Tree - Take a step back from the things you see. You might get confused too easily if you get too close. See past nature's disguises. Bouncy tune. Guitar with violin and percussion.

  • Sending The Message - Take this town. Give it up. Take everything above her and beside her. Don't be shy just be bold. A sad flowing song with guitar and violin. Added drums and a wistful voice.

  • Struck Gold - You take a piece of her with you. Everywhere you go she sees what you see. Keep your eyes on her don't look away. She wouldn't change you for the world. Lighthearted guitar, a humming voice to song and a violin.

  • I Found A Way - She found a way into your room. She found a way into your world. She found a way into your heart and she can't get out. She won't leave because she's all yours. Plucking guitar, rhythm and drums. Upbeat folk.

  • The Hunted (A Bear's Tale) - Here on her own she sees you again. She calls her friend from a hill and follows his trail. He asks you not to follow him into his cave. The notes of a guitar scaling up and down. Another guitar intertwines. The story told from the heart of a bear as in a lullaby.

  • Heart - She sees the wind blow across his face. It shows the joy in his eyes. Let the warm night reveal who you are to her and not your disguise. Multi electric guitars. A soft and gentle tune.

  • The Swallow Flies - Wishing for reality like a fish swimming out to sea. Is it possible to sail your ship to the clear blue skies? Draw her close so she can see the pictures within your eyes. Folk guitar with gentle percussion.

2015 proved to be another great year for her with more exciting live appearances around the country which included Manchester International Festival, Liverpool International Music Festival & Blackthorn Festival. She began 2016 by filming a series of live videos with her band - using innovative & state of the art 360 degree filming technology and even more significantly, she began the process of writing & recording towards her second album. In addition, Katie made her debut as a TV presenter alongside BBC Radio 6 & BBC Radio 2 presenter,Chris Hawkins on ‘The Sound Check’ - a pilot edition for a showcase program for new musical talent recorded at Dock 10 Studios at Media City, Salford.

Following a small number of summer dates (that included her first appearances at Kendal Calling Festival & Sidmouth Fringe Festival), Katie took a break from her music as she celebrated an addition to her family with the birth of her baby boy. She was delighted that by the end of the year a poll was marked on the Laurel Canyon Music website voting her ‘New Artist of The Year’.

2017 began with an invitation to play on BBC Breakfast TV and also by having some of her music chosen to be used on the soundtrack for a forthcoming British film. She continues to write and record towards her second album and is also currently working on a musical collaboration due for release soon. She is looking forward to sharing her new music with a return to live performance later in the year. The future offers many more exciting times for Little Sparrow.
