ODIBAL

The members of the ODIBAL band are: Keni Brownlow - vocals, guitar and percussion, Mickey Gorman – vocals and acoustic bass, and Murray McDowell - vocals, guitar, accordion and harmonica. Most of the members are from Larne, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland.

They had released their first album, "Bringing It All Back Home" in 2013 to some great reviews. The track ‘Far Away from Home’ was from this album. The band received a "Finalist" placing in the prestigious UK Songwriting Contest – that was placed in the final 12 out of 6000+ entries! Another song from the album, Sober, was placed as a Semi-Finalist. Their second album, "Rollin' with the Times" came out November 14, 2014. It, again, received fantastic reviews. They released the track ‘Need You’ as a single and it sold very well. It was also featured on some top flight radio shows. The band is currently in Red7 Studios in Larne recording another full album, but have pre-released ‘Fly Away’ as a single from it. The Sunday Life ran a feature on both albums in 2014 which really helped boost their profile.

Their recent CD ‘Rollin’ with the Times’ presents post progressive indie folk/country with a neo/folk revival sound. The tunes give a Woody Guthrie, Willie Nelson, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan and Mississippi folk rock looming over the Antrim gospel / border soul concept with a slight Celtic edge.

  • Together – starts out with a few gentle strums then goes full force reminding me of the beginning of a Mary Chapin Carpenter song but it continues with their own style. A violin eases its way into the background. How many times have you accomplished things in your travels making the audience beg for more? You’ve done it together, which holds the bond of that traveling friendship.

  • Arms to Hold You – beautiful electric guitar riffs turns into a hometown country fling then off in the distance a voice strongly sings to you in its enclosure. For ones who feel sad, the arms holding you will help make you feel comforted. The violin adds to the love.

  • Summer Girl – comes at you like a summer breeze. A gentle barista flair mingles that gives the quality of her nature. Bluesy girl music that makes you smile during the summertime so that autumn won’t take her away.

  • 55 – The highway calls you to travel. Guitars and drum motor you on the adventure. The times are for remembering but you never know where you will end up on the 55.

  • Gamblin’ Man – A moderate pace of the guitar with the added drum. The harmonies end up kicking it up a few notches. It’s crazy what people think of what you are and what you do when your intentions are of a different nature. An accordion tells you what for.

  • Alone Again – A sad feeling with the guitars. We all want someone. A heart beats fast for the need. Will you make the commitment not to be alone again? Things must change. Don’t go back to the hurt.

  • Mask – Relax with the music. How is it that many feel that they need to wear a mask and hide behind their true feelings? Are you always happy with needing no one in particular when you really wish people could actually see and want what is sincerely you?

  • Wonderful Life – a frisky happy Celtic tune with a guitar and flute. An accordion accompanies the song. If things are getting you down, then make way. Life is wonderful. Never have the negatives. Think positive and enjoy.

  • Need You – Tranquil guitar strums bring the notes up and down. Words need to be said and the tempo picks up. Sit down and listen to the heartfelt voice. Things are going to be different. Don’t be scared. Nothing will hurt you. You will be protected with love.

  • Something Spanish – the music makes you want to stomp your feet, head down in a slant with your hands in the air clapping with the Spanish beat. Let’s learn what can be taught about the Spanish ways. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, Hey! Guitar, clapping and the trumpet.

Odibal stay true to their roots with their folk-style flair. Great driving music with positive vibrations. They are a tight three part vocal harmony group with some great sing-along melodies and lyrics!
