Ships Have Sailed

Ships Have Sailed are from Los Angeles, California. The members of the band are Will Carpenter and Daniel Hange. Will Carpenter, has difficulty slowing down and an admittedly overactive mind, hence songs with names like "Midnight" and "Insomnia". So when he put across the idea that Ships, a band whose undeniably slick pop had earned them a loyal following over the past two years, should put out a completely acoustic EP, his bandmates at first questioned his sanity.

Since their inception, Ships Have Sailed have always struck a balance between exuberant pop and substantial alternative rock. Their 2014 debut EP Someday was essentially a soft launch for the band that picked up traction organically; receiving heavy airplay on College, NPR and Commercial radio in the US and Canada. Later that year the band toured the Northeastern US and, in 2015, performed showcases at SXSW, CMJ Music Marathon, Canadian Music Week & NAMM. They also took home accolades from ISC, Unsigned Only and The John Lennon Songwriting Competition.

2015 also saw the release of their first full length album Moodswings - a reflection on how the present is impacted by all other moments in time and how any sort of change can alter the trajectory of one’s life. The LP received glowing reviews from Black Book, Wild Honey Pie and The 405 and spawned a sister release Re: MIX whose tropical house remixes seemed in perfect step with the evolving music climate.

Drive - Feeling the rain and pulling you close after the thunder. The moment in time is frozen. Nothing can slow us down when we have this time together. We are driven.

Summertime - All of the fun things happen during the summertime. The ocean, the music and the dancing until sunrise turn the events into exciting explosions.

Out Of Time - Everything was fine when you were first met but walls were built. Everything came crashing down but you will not be forgotten.

If Only - After waking up at 7 am, a note was seen because you left so soon. You left me so I listen to the songs we used to listen to. If only your heart was felt close to mine.

Boomerang - You try to forget what was but you still try to send a message through your mind in hope that it reaches her. How far will the boomerang fly?

Criminal - When you look at the vast physical waters it seems like a subliminal miracle but in the shadows of your heart it's a criminal.

The Tide - Why wait for a dream? You can have what you long for. Listen to the tide and your heart.

You Should Know - You should know that a heart is beating for you no matter what the circumstances in life. Thank you for giving to me and I give back to you.

Insomnia - Life is full of complexities so you keep all those thoughts next to you when you try to sleep.

Echoes - Echoes are frozen in time and don't seem to reach you. Just memories of your voice going through my head.

Imaginary Friend - When we were young we seemed to create an imaginary friend to talk to and protect us especially when we felt lost.

The newest acoustic version of songs, 'Whispers', include 3 of the previous songs from Moodswings. They are 'Out Of Time', 'Criminal' and 'Midnight'. Along with those songs, the newest ones are 'Lucky' and 'Home'.
