Runaway GO

Runaway GO are from Belfast. There aren't many bands who can boast a Medieval Literature scholar and a Medical doctor in their midst but Runaway GO isn't any regular band. Javed Love, Chris Jackson, and James Lappin initially formed the band, under the name Kagura, in 2006. Fiona O’Kane was subsequently asked to join the group as the lead singer and was later joined by school friend David Jackson after he impressed the band with his vocal harmonies. Kagura performed sporadically at local venues in Belfast and released two well-received demo EP’s in 2007 and 2009.

A period of transition from 2010-2011 saw the band change names twice, performing for a short time under the moniker Phoenix Fire before settling on Runaway GO.  Fronted by the dual vocal talents of Dave Jackson and Fiona O'Kane, the band bridges the gap between indie and pop with their indie band instrumentation and their ant hemic pop melodies, vocal ranges and added harmonies. They have been labeled as an indie band but are more categorized as ‘indie pop’ which the band happily adopts.

  • ‘Ashes’ – First a voice, then a piano. The drum beats like a bouncing rubber ball, only faster and in successions. It steadies. There is a running away from the ashes, from what had burned you, and then to be cleansed with what awaits.

  • ‘I Would Go’ – The guitar pulses loudly. The drum; beating like a heart. The song sounds like a mind in confusion. Going in circles over and over again. If everything was the same as that, I would go. Make it different. Guitar variations and harmonies run through the song.

  • ‘This is Real’ - The harmonies of the voices begin the song bringing a somewhat calypso feel to it. The song always comes off as pop. What you see may be an illusion so run to the other side. Not sure if I can make it but I sure will try. The voice is pleading.

  • ‘126’ – Voices. Then a guitar trickles up and down. The drums are added then the full array of instruments follow in skipping beats. Harmonies. Dave’s accented voice gives the song added character. Clapping, drums and riffs.

  • ‘Jump Start’ - Fiona’s voice is hypnotic. The drums hold a major part of the song with streams of guitar. The bridge brings out faster playing. Dave sings and it works so beautifully with Fiona’s voice.

  • ‘Drowning’ - The guitar cries. The drum trickles in fast rhythm. What had been written within your pages, wanting to be seen, hadn’t been seen, so you hold back and let the light fade. Grab the rope before you fall. Wrecking it, she can’t let go…. You can hear the heartache in the song.

Their music is emotive and connects with their audience. Individually, five creative people but together with each element they bring, their personalities shine. To find out more about this band go to:
