THE DEMON BARBERS

Part gig, part dance show, The Demon Barbers, from Yorkshire & Newcastle, England, bring a new repertoire - extra band members and a modern twist to their multi award winning Roadshow. Combing solid traditional acoustic instruments and songs with the added oomph of a superbly tight rhythm section they create a unique and captivating sound.

Since winning 'Best Live Act' at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, The Demon Barbers have been immersed in the development of their Folk & Hip Hop Dance Extravaganza 'The Lock In'. Following a number of successful UK tours, including high profile shows at Glastonbury Festival and 5 star reviews for their 2 week run at Edinburgh Fringe, The Demon Barbers now bring some of the UK's most exciting young Clog, Sword, Hip Hop & Break dancers onto the concert stage to create the live folk music & dance spectacular of the year!

The Demon Barbers XL features new material from their new album 'Disco At The Tavern' a collaboration with Grammy & Emmy Award winners Donal Hodgson and Kipper, best known for their work with Sting.

  • Ranzo - A great beat with an accordian and concertina playing. A record is being turned back and forth in disco style. A drum beats in time. You are invited to sing along. A fun tune. The song makes you want to dance. A jazz style is added.

  • May Song - A piano gently takes you into this song while a violin adds to the suspense. Singing about spring. Deep elements are added. Innovative Celtic and the buzz of electronics.

  • Bitter Withy - Clapping keeps the beat as the song is sung. Saying fairwell as you travel up and down the hills. Going to a ball until your safe return. Who do you meet along the way? The music picks up the beat. Violin and more.

  • Aye Fly - Violin begins. Bells, then the drum and rhythm of the Celtic beat. The atmosphere livens up. Disco trance. Dreamy jazz is thrown in with big band.

  • Rambling Rover - Deep electronic bass reggae beats begin this tune. This is mixed with Celtic music with a song sung within. Bongos flare keeping the beats inbetween. Dancing jazz.

  • Sally Free & Easy - A sea faring tune; one sung on a ship as you work and sail. A violin serves as the wind. All join in singing about Sally. The song takes a different turn. The waves get rough and lively. Every one is dancing enjoying the trip. as the trip ensues into the evening the song slows down again but not for long. The evening is enjoyed. Ends slow.

  • Sir Lionel - Another Celtic reggae beat taking a folkish turn. A story about Sir Lionel's adventures as a hunter and what he saw along the way. Come blow your horn. Disco is infused within.

  • Two Brothers - Piano and singing about they going to school. Out in the play yard wrestling. It becomes almost fatal until one dies. The other runs away. Harmony and violin. Suzy's heart is hurt.

  • Swimming Song - Big band and disco jazz. Going swimming but not knowing how.... To keep afloat he learns to move his arms around to keep from drowning. Many different styles are tried out in different water holes. Violin with a deep electronic beat. Then piano and horns. How fancy.

  • Three Ravens - Sounds of the outback, down in the deep wetlands, three ravens were on a tree. The backdrop is smooth violin with the random wilderness atmospheres thrown around as in a desolate trip. The ravens talk of what is to be found.

  • Go Boys Go - Southern pacific island tunes. A working song. Disco. As you dig deeper breathing fumes you get closer to your death but you look forward to being payed at the end of it all. Long hours.

  • Disco At The Tavern - Taking time out to let loose, dance and enjoy the night. Instrumental and jazzy Celtic rag time. Bass beat. Fast violin and voices inbetween encouraging the song. The record is twisted scratched as the dj plays. Electronic infusions. Ending introduction announcements.

"The inspiration comes from Damien Barber, front man of the award-winning folk band The Demon Barbers, who supplies the floor shaking live music that, alone, justifies the price of the ticket". - The Independent review of The Lock In.
