HOTEL ON MARS

Ready to blast you into outer space, Hotel On Mars, is a band from Dublin city, Ireland. The members of the band are Ray McGinty and Graham Keogh. Graham plays guitar / keys/bass and Ray is a humble top line melody writing front man. They use various friends / session musicians for their albums.  The band was started by Ray and Graham. They were both in many bands in Ireland to varying success, names such as The Idiots, the Kerbs , tribe of Ben, Tarantula Fall and Caterpillar Jones. They both gravitated to each other when their bands would support each other and decided to start a band which no other Irish band had actually done before ie. 'Don't Talk About It'. They didn't talk about it, they just did it hence the album was recorded in 5 days in Wales .

It was self-produced by the band, who all played live in a big old room and stuck the results to tape. managed to mash together many musical styles for the good of mankind. With nods to The Clash, The Ruts, Pixies, Franz Ferdinand, John Denver, Phil Collins, Pearl Jam and whatever you’re having yourself.

Some true stories about the making of the record:
– The band got lost on the drive to the studio, and at 1am in the worst storm this side of Hurricane Tom Jones, the supposed 40 minute jaunt took over two hours. It culminated with a 30 minute rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody, that thankfully ended on arrival.

– On one particular journey back to the ferry, the car alarm battery died forcing Ray and Niall to endure a 40 minute drive down Welsh roads with a ear-shattering siren going off around them. They were never the same after it.

– Ray tried to recruit a Welsh Male Choir to sing on the album after a chance conversation with the local barkeeper. Unfortunately guitar music wasn’t their thing, but he did managed to dupe Graham into paying for their CD. He never got that fiver back.

– They band collectively brought more booze than it did musical equipment. Priorities.

– Ray and Graham found a shop selling sausages at a great price. So they bought forty. How many different meals can you make with sausages? A lot…

– And finally, why Wales? Why not!

  • Passes Over You - Nursery rhymes. Mother Goose takes us through the adventures of Little Miss Muffet, and Little Red Riding Hood in rock 'n roll narration style. Beware the danger!

  • Machine - She behaves like a machine but you want to see past it and really look into her eyes. Can you stir her emotions by behaving like a clown? You wonder if you can last that long trying to make her yours.

  • Head For Rent -  What's going on inside that head of yours. Is anyone home? Can I occupy that space? Can I come inside your dreams and party?

  • Everybody Is A DJ - Get your mojo and your 70's look going. Looking for the rhythm and reality but the media likes to dumb it down. Is your perception of what's hot really out there?  Shake to the beat to determine your state of mind.

  • First Degree Burns -  You don't need the daylight but you don't heed the call  when you are asked to be in his hold. What he does will cause those first degree burns. Don't hide your emotions. It will take every pinch of pain to reveal them.

  • Candy Coated Please SHut Up - Why are you frowning and feeling so down?  You sound so confused. Please explain... I've heard enough so will you please, with candy coating, please shut up now!

  • Bad Dalai Lama - We can see right through you. You're trying to do good but you're behaving like a bad Dalai Lama. Everyone has their own God and their own cross to bear. Everyone's in their zone. What's yours?

  • A New Foe - The city is seen in a whole new light. Loving you forever wasn't my choice. It could have burned forever like a drunken pyre but you were unaware of the dangers.

  • Sentinel - The sentinel is like a big ape just watching and waiting but keeps whispering in your mind, "I'm alive!". He's on the prowl in your brain like a wolf.

  • Want What You Want - Of all the things you fight over is the ultimate goal what you really want or will you run from the sheer terror of it?

A quirky sense of humor with attitude. Add in gospel, funk, punk, country, rock and Dutch horn flute. This band will rocket you to Mars equip with their ray guns for the adventures of all you'll encounter on this planet which all takes place in and around this one stand hotel.

Their next album, which they are writing now, will be released probably around April of 2017. They've also done a collaboration with a DJ called Fuzzbot who is garnering much acclaim in America. Check out Fuzzbotmusic at: http://fuzzbotmusic.com/
