Dallas Cosmas

Prototype Musique producer, otherwise known as Dallas Cosmas, was born in Melbourne, Australia. His production label is based in Melbourne where most of the various artists he has produced are also based. Dallas Cosmas is not a pseudonym, he is a singer/songwriter/producer living and breathing in Melbourne in his words ‘a relatively small but highly vibrant scene with disparate influences across the city, many guitar bands playing in bars but an equally active club culture.’ In 2008 he founded Prototype Musique, his production label and gathered his ‘collective of different talents with a shared vision.’ His motto, ‘being independent as long as one keeps their sense of self is ok whether to be indie or mainstream. Just be true.’

Born in a musical family, Dallas has always been open and immersed in diverging styles, languages and cultures, where ‘music knows no borders.’ Songwriting has always been his prime creative outlet. As a multi-instrumentalist, he explains instruments ‘are merely a means to an end to bring the song to life.’ About songwriting, ‘over 200 songs later and it's still a mysterious thing. In recent times the essence comes in dreams so the visual becomes very potent to drive the direction as we develop it. Composition comes from an undefined place, with a little help from the rational me to get into shape.’ It's like bringing the ethereal quality of a great painting to light with its many shapes and colors. He is particularly curious about cinema scoring as he ‘dreams music in a visual way'.

Black is the Colour - from the album "the united states of your soul" -2006

Keeping true to his heart, Dallas's music has the sound and feel of David Bowie which helps keep Bowie's spirit alive to all his listeners. Electronic pop rock. His newest CD is called The Memory Keys. Exploring with hindsight the music of Prototype's formative years, it shows how it shaped a world view and gravitation to life - long friends. The official release was Thursday October 20, 2016.

  • 45 Revolutions - Thoughts keep going round and round in your head. They stay in a corner at times. Is there an outlet? Out there in the world it's in a groove. It seems far away but still there. Electronic pop rock.

  • The Midnight Road - Electronic synth rock. Finding out about different situations people go through on your travels down the midnight road. What is your attitude? We need to get it together.

  • Bang Bang (The Chorus) - Spoken words come at a price. The freedom of your thoughts are not shared by everyone. Sometimes the words are like a gun and you load up again. Responsibility is the best method.

  • A Part of Me - A guitar with a crackling old record sound. Sometimes you feel apart from yourself. A light is flickering like the part of me that may be half crazy. She sails steadily and knows. She reaches out.

  • House Calls - Like a fever, she has pictures posted all over her wall and can't seem to escape what she feels. Get the doctor for the cure. Cards are sent for her recovery while she sways to the beat.

  • Why Don't You - Heavy pulsing electronic pop rock and drums. Tomorrow you'll raise your dark eyes from your pillow. Restless battles in your dreams and the one viewing this wishes the door could be opened from your visions. Why don't you let help in?

  • It's Over Me - Intricate guitar and electronics. With patience and moments you show your strength. When you feel wrong, your only option is to feel it's over you. You are not looking for anger but acceptance.

  • To the Station - Confusion seems at hand as you try to find the best way to the station. Taking cover from a storm as you've found your way there, you listen to the radio before the train arrives. The song plays "Which way to the Station". Platinum and Gold.

  • Meet You Once Again - A dear friend was lost too suddenly. Only photos of remembrance remain. But if you had taken an early train perhaps you would have seen her once again. Listen to what you feel in your heart. This is where you'll find her once again.

  • The Promise - The artist has another song to sing to the world. The stage is set for the promise. Don't miss the promise. It's all those thoughts swirling around your mind and your mind remembers the promise you made to her.

  • Green Girl - Do you want to save the world or is it just the prairie wind. Joni, you're all heart and soul like a wildflower. What will she sing when the lights explode and your baby's coming home? When the blue boy's heart collides?

  • Good Goodbye - After talking about many things, it's time to say goodbye to the spin we're in. To the many people you've met and the open books shown, it's good, goodbye to the grand illusions and the year that was.

The philosophy at Prototype is all about seeking out the spirit of the song and drawing out the truest performance. Let the recording breathe without over production. It doesn’t matter whether your vibe is high-gear rock, self penned acoustic, glittering pop or sampling jazz beats, Prototype Musique are here to help capture you at your very best utilizing a wide mix of digital & vintage analogue equipment.
